Laparoscopy & Hysteroscopy in AP & Telangana

Fertility Enhancing Surgeries

Many women struggle with infertility due to underlying gynaecological issues that are not always visible on ultrasound or blood tests. Conditions such as uterine fibroids, polyps, adhesions, septum, endometriosis or blocked fallopian tubes can interfere with fertilisation or implantation. Surgical interventions like hysteroscopy and laparoscopy allow us to see inside the uterus and abdomen, identify problems and correct them in the same sitting, all while preserving fertility.

These surgeries are considered safe and minimally invasive. They often form an important step in the overall fertility journey, either as standalone procedures or as preparation for assisted reproduction.

Why is it done?

We recommend these surgeries in cases such as:

  • Recurrent pregnancy loss or failed IVF cycles
  • Unexplained infertility
  • Suspected fibroids, adhesions or uterine abnormalities
  • Endometriosis symptoms, such as painful periods or pelvic pain
  • Evaluation of tubal health and patency
  • Removal of polyps or a uterine septum

For many women, correcting these issues through minor surgery can significantly increase the chances of natural conception or success with IVF.

The Process

Hysteroscopy involves inserting a thin telescope-like device through the vagina into the uterus. It provides a clear view of the uterine cavity and allows us to treat polyps, fibroids, adhesions or septum right away. It is usually done under short general anaesthesia and does not require any cuts or stitches.

Laparoscopy involves making 2-3 small cuts in the abdomen through which a camera and fine instruments are inserted. It helps us assess the uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries, and treat conditions like endometriosis, ovarian cysts or pelvic adhesions. Laparoscopy can also confirm if the fallopian tubes are open, a key factor in natural fertility.

Both procedures are performed as day-care surgeries. Recovery is usually quick, and most women resume daily activities within a few days.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these surgeries painful?
×
Both hysteroscopy and laparoscopy are performed under anaesthesia. You may feel some mild discomfort for a few days after, but most women recover quickly.
How do I know if I need surgery before IVF?
+
Your fertility specialist will assess your history, symptoms and scans. If there are signs of any uterine abnormality or suspected endometriosis, surgery may be advised.
Will surgery delay my fertility treatment?
+
Usually, there is a short healing period after surgery, but it often improves treatment outcomes, making the wait worthwhile.
Can I conceive naturally after these procedures?
+
Yes, many women do. Removing blockages or treating endometriosis can restore natural fertility. If IVF is still required, the chances of success often increase.
Are there any risks involved?
+
As with any surgery, there are small risks such as infection or bleeding, but complications are rare, especially when performed by experienced doctors.
How soon can I try to conceive after undergoing these surgeries?
+
In most cases, women can begin trying to conceive within one to two cycles after surgery, depending on what was treated. Your doctor will guide you based on your recovery and fertility plan.
Do these procedures affect my menstrual cycle?
+
Some women may experience a temporary change in their cycle the month after surgery, such as a delayed or lighter period. This is usually short-lived, and normal cycles resume soon after.
Can hysteroscopy or laparoscopy be repeated if needed?
+
Yes, if new symptoms appear or if fertility does not improve as expected, your doctor might suggest a repeat procedure. However, these surgeries are typically effective in a single session for most cases.
