Advanced PRP therapy for fertility at KIMS Fertility Centre

PRP Therapy

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) therapy involves injecting the patient’s own plasma - rich in growth factors, into targeted reproductive areas to promote tissue regeneration. It is commonly used in fertility care to improve the quality of the uterine lining for embryo implantation and to enhance ovarian function in women with poor ovarian reserve. The procedure is safe, minimally invasive and increasingly used alongside IVF or IUI.

Benefits

It is done to-
Improve egg quality and ovary function

Improve your chances of getting pregnant.

Why is it done?

PRP therapy may be recommended in the following situations:

  • Thin endometrial lining that does not respond to medication
  • Poor ovarian response in IVF cycles.
  • Repeated implantation failure
  • Women with low AMH or signs of early ovarian ageing

By improving the local blood supply and stimulating cell growth, PRP may help improve implantation rates and overall fertility outcomes.

The Process

The procedure starts with drawing a small amount of the patient's blood. This is then processed in a centrifuge to isolate the platelet-rich plasma. The PRP is injected into either the endometrium (intrauterine PRP) or the ovaries (ovarian PRP), depending on the treatment goal. It is usually done as an outpatient procedure and does not require hospitalisation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is PRP therapy safe?
×
Yes. Since PRP is prepared from your own blood, there is minimal risk of allergy or rejection. It is a low-risk, outpatient procedure performed under sterile conditions by trained professionals.
How long does PRP therapy take?
+
The entire process usually takes less than one hour. The actual injection takes only a few minutes, and you can return home the same day.
How many PRP sessions are needed?
+
This depends on your individual response and the reason for treatment. Some patients may benefit from a single session, while others may need more than one cycle for optimal results.
Can PRP improve egg quality?
+
In some women with low ovarian reserve or poor egg quality, PRP may help stimulate the ovaries and improve response. However, results vary and PRP therapy is usually combined with other treatments.
Is PRP therapy suitable for all fertility patients?
+
Not always. It is usually recommended for women with specific issues such as thin endometrium or poor ovarian response. Your doctor will assess your medical history and hormone levels before recommending PRP therapy.
When is the best time to undergo PRP during a fertility cycle?
+
PRP is usually administered during the early or mid-phase of your treatment cycle, depending on the indication. For endometrial support, it is often done before embryo transfer. Your fertility team will guide you on the exact timing.
Does PRP therapy cause any side effects?
+
PRP therapy is generally well tolerated. Some patients may experience mild cramping or spotting, which usually resolves within a day. Since it uses your own blood, the risk of infection or allergic reaction is very low.
Can PRP be used with IVF or IUI cycles?
+
Yes. PRP therapy is often used as an adjunct to IVF or IUI, particularly in women who have experienced thin endometrial lining, poor ovarian reserve or implantation failure. It may enhance the effectiveness of these treatments when used appropriately.
